Cubica solves critical defence and security challenges using machine learning, AI, image and video recognition, and more. We pioneer new technologies to help reduce crime, save lives and protect children. We work on some of the most exciting and innovative projects with our government and industry clients. Our work comes from winning competed research contracts and significant repeat business with high profile clients including DSTL, the Home Office, and the NCA. The majority of our work involves conducting research and development projects.
Our technical team is growing and we are looking for a Technical Business Development Manager to help support our business development activities. At Cubica the relationships we build with our clients are founded on technical excellence and openness, which is why we’re looking for someone with a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) background who is excited to engage with our clients on a technical level. We’re also looking for someone with a passion for bid writing and conceptual thinking.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team in one of the UK’s leading research and development companies. Whilst a background in one or more of the following (machine learning, AI, data science, image processing or data fusion) would be beneficial, it is not essential.
Day-to-day you will be working closely with the management team to identify and respond to business development opportunities, for example by identifying new government funding sources or engaging with clients to shape new projects. You will help manage and update our business development process and help the Company enter new markets. The central element of the role is writing content for bids and proposals with guidance and input from the team, helping produce engineering estimates and high-level project plans. The majority of our projects are complex research and development projects.
Your role will involve working office hours, and will involve a moderate amount of travel to attend briefing events, meetings and other important events. You will report directly to the Managing Director and Scientific Director, and will work with them closely to deliver a pipeline of opportunities and high-class proposals.
We will accept applications from experienced Business Development candidates as well as from candidates looking to move into Business Development for the first time. In the case of the latter, we feel the role would suit somebody who has been working in a relevant research and development / technical development role and wishes to make a career change to focus more on the business development process.
The essential qualities for a successful candidate are: organisation, excellent written and oral communication skills, a passion for research and technology, and commercial experience. A flair for proposal writing is also important. A undergraduate degree in a STEM subject is also required. However, as mentioned, whilst a background in one or more of the following (machine learning, AI, data science, image processing or data fusion) would be beneficial, it is not essential.
